My hubby has many facets to his personality comprised of strengths and weaknesses. This in itself comes as a shock to nobody, as we all are complex to others when they attempt to understand us.
However, I want to share a sweet blessing from my hubby of which I am thankful for during this month of Thanksgiving.
My hubby and I decided to hold the feast at our home this year. Any woman who has prepared the meal herself knows the laborious hours involved. It was no different for me. For the most part of Wednesday, I was making and baking homemade pies and cheesecake.
Wednesday night brought on its own challenge. We had sick children and I dared to stay up and make homemade potato rolls. After cooking and mashing the potatoes for the rolls, I worked them into dough for bread. I then realized the potato bread had a LOT of lumps in it. I spent 2 hours kneading out the lumps of potato to make it smooth. Then I had to let it rise for an hour, before shaping into rolls, dousing in butter, and letting rise again before popping into the oven. In an exhausted state, I crawled into bed at 4 AM.
I had to be up at 7 AM to prepare the Turkey. I was dreading the day, as I knew the fatigue would easily bring me to tears if anything went wrong, which is bound to happen when you undertake such an endeavor.
Enter my hero. My hubby, Steve, came in the kitchen and pitched in the entire day. First, he bathed our children and got them dressed. Then he peeled potatoes while I took a shower. The rest of the day, he helped host a wonderful feast and stood shoulder to shoulder by me, preparing all the last hour details of the meal. Organized, Steve in that last hour kept things flowing smoothly when I could almost not function mentally from exhaustion. My hubby gave up his favorite Thanksgiving pastime, football games, to serve my need.
I have a brand new respect for my husband’s choice to be a servant for his family and feel deeply grateful to God and my hubby for a wonderful day of fellowship with family! I love you Mr. Bell!
